MCR 2010 invites submissions in the genres of poetry, fiction, creative non-fiction (including criticism), translations, and art, especially submissions that fit the theme for this year, Speculative Fictions. Just as the art above by Eric Pervukhin shows a possible future, for this theme we are interested in writing and art that considers alternate futures, whether diastopic, utopic, fantastic, deluded, or contorted. If your work considers “what if,” it has a good chance at fitting this theme. Superior work outside this theme will also be considered. Here are some possible approaches:

The above genres have become an irreplaceable part of United States popular culture, and in unforeseen ways have even shaped the futures they construct. In MCR 2010,we welcome literary approaches to these forms. With that in mind, no fanfic or recycled TV/movie material. Submissions are especially encouraged from Missouri State University students and community, including faculty, staff, and alumni; writers outside of the Missouri State community are also welcome.
Mailing Information
No emailed submissions except for art. On your submission, please include your name, address, phone number, and an email address that you check regularly on page one for fiction/non-fiction or on each poem for poetry. Fiction and non-fiction should not exceed twenty pages and poetry submissions limited to three to five poems, please. Art should be sent as an attached file by email (tiff preferred, at least 300 dpi). No SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) is needed for mailed submissions since accept or decline notices will be sent by email, with notification on or before February 5, 2010. Because manuscripts will not be returned, do not send the only copy of your work. Mailing address:
