Margaret Weaver
Professor
Margaret Weaver teaches courses in rhetorical theory, feminist theory, and
composition pedagogy. She received her Ph.D. in humanities (specializing in
composition theory and ESL) from the University of Texas at Arlington in
1997. Dr. Weaver has served on both the International Writing Centers
Association Board and the Midwest Writing Centers Association Board, and she served as the Missouri State University Writing Center director from 1994–2004. Her
articles have been published in the Journal of Advanced Composition,
Writing Center Journal, Journal of General Education, and
Writing Lab Newsletter. She is currently working on a book manuscript
titled Responding to those Patently Offensive, Ethically Questionable,
and Morally Repugnant Papers: When Students' Ideology Conflicts with
Tolerance. Dr. Weaver has been privileged to receive two College
Teaching Awards, one University Teaching Award, and one College Service
Award at Missouri State. She also won the International Writing Centers Association Outstanding Scholarship Award for Best Article in 2004: "Censoring What Tutors' Clothing 'Says': First Amendment Rights/WRites Within Tutorial Space." Writing Center Journal 24.2 (2004): 19-36. When she is not writing or teaching, she indulges herself in
music. She sings in the Mid-America Singers and plays flute in the Missouri State
community band. She is convinced that the best teachers always remain
students.
