TESOL Track
Core and Degree Requirements
All students seeking a Master of Arts in English degree complete the same core and degree requirements. In addition, students specialize in their particular area of study by completing requirements in their track. Please review the core and degree requirements page and then navigate back to this page to review the track requirements.
As part of their core requirements, students who choose the graduate track in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) must complete the following courses:
| ENG 592: Sociolinguistics for Language Teaching | 3 hrs. |
| ENG 595: Principles of Second Language Acquisition | 3 hrs. |
| ENG 596: Materials and Assessment in TESOL | 3 hrs. |
Track Requirements
In addition to the core requirements, students must complete the following course requirements:
| ENG 505: Methods in TESOL or ENG 597: Practicum in TESOL |
2–3 hrs. |
| ENG 590: Grammatical Analysis or ENG 593: Studies in Linguistics |
3 hrs. |
| ENG 692: Linguistics in Rhetoric and Composition or ENG 693: Seminar: Linguistics |
3 hrs. |
| ENG 699: Thesis or alternative 600-level course work and two degree papers |
6 hrs. |
| Total | 14–15 hrs. |
