Scholarships
You may submit applications for English Department scholarships electronically (see Financial Aid's Scholarship page). Alternately, you can download and fill out the application and mail it to the English Department office. Applications should be completed and submitted no later than March 1. Scholarships for Freshmen
William Bedford Memorial Scholarship
Student must be an entering freshman English major. Preference is given to students from Howell County.
Robert Henigan Literature Scholarship
Student must be an entering freshman English major with an emphasis in literature. Recipient must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a 3.0 GPA in English.
Elda E. Robins Memorial Scholarship
Student must be an entering freshman English major.
Richard M. Turner Scholarship
Student must be an entering freshman English major. Recipient must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a 3.0 GPA in English.
Scholarships for Current Missouri State Students
George and Martha Bixler First Generation Scholarship
Student must be a full-time sophomore or above English education major. Preference is given to first-generation college students with financial need. Recipient must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a 3.0 GPA in English education.
Mildred Henderson Ewing Memorial Scholarship
Student must be a full-time sophomore or above English major with a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
George Gleason Scholarship
Student must be a full-time sophomore or above English major with a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Richard Haswell Memorial Scholarship
Student must be a full-time senior English major with a 3.5 cumulative GPA. Preference is given to students planning to attend graduate school.
Lee H. Morris Memorial Scholarship 3 available
Student must be a full-time upperclassman English major interested in a teaching career. Recipient must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.25 GPA in English. Preference is given to a female student form southwest Missouri.
Myron L. Taylor Professional Writing Scholarship
Student must be a full-time junior or senior professional writing major with a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Scholarships for Graduate Students
Tammy M. Gardner Memorial Travel Award
Recipient must have a paper or presentation accepted to an out-of-city conference.
Haswell Scholarship
Preference given to students planning to do graduate study in English.
Robert Henigan Award
Amount subject to endowment. Awarded for the best student paper by an English graduate student.
Homer and Dorothy Mace Kesterson Scholarship
Student must have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and 3.5 GPA in his or her major. Also available to students in biology, educational administration, mathematics, or modern and classical language.
Kristene Stuliff Professional Writing Scholarship
Open to graduate students in the Master of Arts in Writing, technical and professional writing track.
