This certificate will provide students an understanding of the editing and publication
processes related to small press publishing, literary magazine publishing, professional
editing, and the larger literary publishing industry through both classroom learning
and experience with the Department of English’s Moon City Press and Moon City Review.
This understanding provides a foundation for literary publication, preparing students
for professional work in this field, including but not limited to large publishing
houses, small independent presses, literary agenting and representation, editing and
proofreading, entrepreneurship, and the non-profit arts sector.
Program requirements (12 hours)
- Core: ENG 540(3), 551(3).
- One advanced creative writing course from: ENG 500(3), 501(3), 503(3).
- One course from: ENG 338(3), 354(3), 355(3), 363(3), 366(3), 377(3), 386(3), 483(3), 517(3), 536(3), 547(3), 554(3), 559(3), 562(3), 563(3), 564(3), 572(3), 574(3); 575(3) with permission from the instructor; 583(3).
- All candidates must satisfy the General University Certificate Requirements.
Completion requirement
Attain a grade of C or better in all courses used to fulfill the certificate requirements.
