In our graduate English program, you will learn advanced skills in creative writing, critical thinking, language analysis, and teaching. Our courses build on skills students have already begun developing in our undergraduate programs and take them to the next level. This program also prepares students to continue their education, and many of our graduates go on to M.F.A. or Ph.D. programs in creative writing, Ph.D. programs in literature, and doctoral programs in linguistics.
All Master of Arts in English students complete 18 core hours and specialize in one of the following tracks:
Hone your skills in writing fiction, poetry, essays, and other creative forms. Build your portfolio and find opportunities to publish your work and make a living through your writing and in the publishing industry.
Pursue advanced study in literature (including American, British, and children’s/young adult) and develop your analytical, research, and writing skills. Expand your credentials as a high school teacher or prepare for doctoral study in literature and a career in college teaching.
Put your interest in other cultures to work teaching people whose first language is not English. You can also become certified to teach school-aged English language learners via this program.
