Pursue a graduate degree in English

In our graduate English program, you will learn advanced skills in creative writing, critical thinking, language analysis and teaching.

Our courses build on skills you have already begun developing in your undergraduate programs and will take you to the next level.

This program also prepares you to continue your education. Many of our graduates go on to MFA or PhD programs in creative writing, PhD programs in literature and doctoral programs in linguistics.

Track options

All Master of Arts in English students complete 18 core hours and specialize in one of the following tracks:

Pursue advanced study in literature (including American, British, and children’s/young adult) and develop your analytical, research, and writing skills. Expand your credentials as a high school teacher or prepare for doctoral study in literature and a career in college teaching.
Put your interest in other cultures to work teaching people whose first language is not English. You can also become certified to teach school-aged English language learners via this program.
